There are a lot of possibilities to operate such a switching layout. I wanted it to not be too complicated but interesting at the same time. At the moment there are no individual car cards and no waybills. Each sessions starts with an individual, hand written switch list, based on a set of given tasks.
In reality each industry needs specific loaded cars or empties at a specific spot at a specific time. So one way could have been "3 empty gondolas each monday and thursday at the scrap yard" and so on. This would have been very realistic perhaps - but very repetitive at the same time and soon be boring. I wanted some variance in the daily tasks - sometime there are more cars needed as usual, sometime a car would be delayed for some reason and so on. So I generated a set of tasks.
