The layout is operated via DCC. The system used is vastly influenced by what is typical for FREMO module meets in Germany. For a long time I had this sitting around and working, but it was a little mess and not really portable. Finally I changed this - and here is the result:

DCC-Koffer

It's a so called Euro-Box with 80cmx60cm including everything ever needed. When closed it's even waterproof and easy to transport, when opened there are only two cords to connect: one to the wall plug for power, one to the layout with track voltage. After switching on and waiting for less than a minute operations with wireless throttles can start. :-)

But there is way more in it:

  • Power supply for charging smartphones as throttles - or WiFREDs.
  • Monitor, keyboard and mouse for using the Raspi everyway you want.
  • JMRI running on the Raspi for easy programming of locomotive decoders and managing the roster.
  • USB-Hub to import and export roster data via USB-Stick.
  • Micro-SD-Card-Reader for making full backups of the Raspi.
  • Wired LN output if throttles with cords should be used.
  • Programming track output from the DCC command station if needed.
  • Network output to add an access point for a better WiFi with a greater range for larger layouts and more locos.
  • Track voltage shown via DCC voltmeter.
  • Track power shown on the booster.
  • Wireless access via VNC from a computer or tablet for easy remote working.
  • SPROG3 for programming and testing locos.
  • Removable roller test bench for programming and testing locos with SPROG3.
  • Tester for LN cords.
