I wanted an industry receiving different types of cars. My choice was a specialty bakery receiving tank cars with vegetable oil and corn syrup, hoppers with grain and flour, reefers with fruit and boxcars with everything else, i.e. packaging materials. The complex should look like being grown over time with a newer building added later.

I started with the older part of the complex at the right side, where production started decades before. It has unloading docks for reefers and box cars, the higher part is for storage of grain and flour. Before starting with the real thing I made a card board mock up to check the size, proportions, the overall look and experimented with it, changed it - till I was happy with it.

It's completely scratch built using styrene sheets and constructed to be easily removeable anytime. Completed the shell and test fitting looked like this:

For unloading hoppers workers have to climb on top of them - that's dangerous and needs a fall protection system nowadays. I added one, scratch built with different types of styrene strips:
